Overview

A private electric rickshaw for one or two people, collected from your Paris address and taken past more than twenty monuments over roughly two hours of riding, with a driver who talks and narration you can play alongside.

What to expect

  • Collection from your accommodation inside the city.
  • Settling into an open cab with a wide forward view.
  • Riding largely on cycle lanes rather than in traffic.
  • Photo breaks called whenever you want one.
  • Notre-Dame, the river and the Eiffel Tower among the twenty-plus sights.
  • A drop-off back at your address.

A rickshaw goes where the coaches cannot

This is the actual argument for the format, and it is not about comfort. Central Paris has a great deal that no touring coach will ever reach: streets too narrow to turn a bus in, quaysides closed to motor traffic, cycle lanes that cut straight through where cars must go round.

A pedicab uses all of it. It can follow the river at water level, thread the small streets behind the boulevards, and stop dead in places where anything larger would block a lane. You end up seeing the joins between famous places rather than being delivered from one to the next.

It also sits at the right height. You are outside, at street level, close enough to read a shopfront — the opposite of a coach window, where everything arrives pre-framed.

Riding on the lanes rather than in the traffic

Most of the route uses the protected cycle network, which is why this works as a relaxed way to travel rather than an alarming one. You are not weaving between buses; you are in a lane built for exactly this, with the driver picking the quieter connections.

That also makes the pace conversational. There is time to ask something and get a proper answer, which is the difference between a driver and a recording.

Two hours of riding inside three

Worth reading carefully: the listing runs to about three hours in total, of which roughly two are actually spent moving. The rest is collection, drop-off and the photo breaks you ask for.

That is a reasonable arrangement rather than a shortfall, but it is not three hours of sightseeing and it is better to know that when planning the rest of the day.

The pickup has a boundary

Collection and return are included within the city proper — the addresses with a Paris postcode. Anything beyond the ring road falls outside it, so a suburban address is not covered by the standard collection.

Practicalities

The cab is open. A blanket is normal in cool weather, and in rain you will want a hood of your own.

Narration for twenty-three monuments runs on your phone in eight languages, opened with a code, and works alongside whatever your driver is telling you.

Frequently asked

Why not just take a coach tour?

A coach cannot turn in the narrow streets or use the quaysides and cycle lanes a pedicab can.

How fast does it go?

Between walking pace and a gentle cycling pace, which is why photographs work from a moving cab.

Is it frightening in traffic?

Most of the route runs on the protected cycle network rather than among buses.

Can I ask the driver questions?

Yes — the pace is slow enough for a real conversation rather than a shouted exchange.

How much of the time is actually riding?

About two hours of the three; the rest is collection, return and the breaks you request.

Where can I be collected from?

Any address inside the city with a Paris postcode.

What if I am staying in the suburbs?

That falls outside the included area, so it is arranged as an extension when you book rather than on the day.

Is the cab covered?

It is open, so a blanket helps in cool weather and you will want a hood in rain.
