Overview

Singapore is flat, it is small, and it has spent decades building a network of paths that link its parks and waterfronts to each other. That makes it a better cycling city than its reputation suggests, and a bicycle covers considerably more of it in a morning than your feet will.

What the ride is like

This is a guided ride at a sightseeing pace rather than a workout — you stop, you look at things, you get told what you are looking at, and you get back on. Your guide picks the route through the quieter streets and the connector paths, which is most of the value: knowing which roads to avoid in a city built around expressways is not something a map tells you.

Four hours is enough to string together parts of the city that feel unrelated on foot — the waterfront, the older shophouse districts, the green corridors — and to understand how they actually sit next to each other.

Why a bike

A coach shows you the skyline and a walking tour shows you one district. A bicycle covers the distance between districts while still moving slowly enough to stop at anything, turn down anything, and hear what is going on. In a city where the interesting parts are separated by long stretches of very well-kept nothing, that middle speed is the right one.

It is also the coolest way to do it. Singapore is on the equator and standing still in it is harder work than moving.

Worth knowing

You need to be able to ride a bike; the terrain is flat and the pace is gentle, but this is not a lesson. Bike and helmet are provided — confirm sizing and any child seat or smaller frame when you book.

Bring water, sun cream and a hat for the stops, and expect heat and humidity throughout the day. Afternoon thunderstorms are common and the operator may delay, reroute or cancel a ride in heavy rain or lightning.

The route, the meeting point and the group size are set by the operator and we confirm them with you.
