Why this journey

Five nights that take in the three things most people want from Egypt — the pyramids, the tombs, and the Red Sea — without doubling back.

Cairo opens it with Giza. A flight south gets you into Luxor in time for the east bank: Luxor Temple, built for the renewal of kingship rather than daily cult. The following morning is the West Bank, with three tombs in the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's terraces and the Colossi of Memnon, before the road east to the coast.

Hurghada is four hours from Luxor by road across the Eastern Desert, which is why this pairing works: no second flight, and the reef at the end of it.

Common questions

Does the per-person price drop for a larger party?

Not on this particular itinerary — the four-person rate is quoted higher per head than the two-person rate. Most of our Egypt packages do fall as the party grows, so if you are travelling as four it is worth asking us to compare this against the Cairo, Aswan and Luxor route before you decide.

How long is the drive from Luxor to Hurghada?

About four hours across the Eastern Desert by private air-conditioned vehicle. It replaces a second internal flight.

How many tombs are included?

Three in the Valley of the Kings. Tutankhamun’s tomb is ticketed separately at the site.

Is the Hurghada hotel all-inclusive?

Yes, for the two nights on the coast. Excursions booked outside the resort are extra.

Is two nights enough at the beach?

It is a decompression stop rather than a beach holiday. If the coast is the point of the trip, our seven-night Cairo and Hurghada package gives you five nights there instead.
