Good to know

  • When to go

The aurora season runs from September to early April. December to March brings the longest nights and snow on the ground.

  • Give it a few nights

No one can promise a sighting: it depends on clear skies and solar activity. Three or four nights in the north give you the best chance.

  • One visa

Finland, Norway and Iceland are all in the Schengen area, so one Schengen visa covers the trip. You can apply up to six months ahead.
