Why this journey
Osaka is the easiest base in western Japan: Kyoto and Nara are half an hour away by train, the food is the best argument for the city, and Universal Studios Japan is inside it.
This package fixes the parts that are awkward to arrange from abroad — the airport transfers, four nights with breakfast, a guided day in Kyoto and a day at Universal Studios Japan — and leaves one day completely free.
The Kyoto day covers what a first visit should: the temple districts, the shrine gates and the old streets, with a guide and transport included. The free day is usually spent in Osaka itself, at the castle, in Dotonbori or on a short train ride to Nara.

Before you go
Semi-free package
Two days are arranged — the guided Kyoto day and the Universal Studios Japan visit — and the rest of the week is free.
The rate quoted is based on five adults travelling together; smaller parties are quoted at the higher rate band.
Travel documents and visa
Carry a passport valid for the whole of your stay in Japan.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality and are not included in this package; check them well before you book flights.
Getting around
Japanese stations and hotels have limited space for large suitcases; pack a small bag for nights away from your base city.
The operator provides English-speaking assistance; guiding in other languages can be requested and is quoted separately.
Common questions
Which airport does this package use?
It is quoted from Kansai International Airport, the main airport for Osaka and Kyoto.
How far is Kyoto from the hotel?
About half an hour by train from central Osaka. The Kyoto day is guided, with transport included.
Is this a private tour?
The airport transfers are private. The Kyoto day is a scheduled tour with a guide; the theme-park and free days are independent.
Can we visit Nara as well?
Yes, on the free day. Nara is about forty minutes by train from Osaka, and the deer park and Todai-ji are a short walk from the station.
Are theme-park tickets included?
A Universal Studios Japan visit is part of the package as quoted by the operator. The exact ticket type is confirmed when you book.
What are the hotels like?
Standard tourist-class hotels with breakfast. Japanese rooms are small by European standards; families are usually placed in two rooms rather than one.
